The Gebrüder Götz company was founded on July 1, 1939 by the brothers Franz and Walter Götz in Würzburg. What began as a regionally active shoe retailer has developed continuously over the years into an international shoe retailer with a range of shoes for women, men and children. In 1970 gebrüder götz introduced the fashion and household ranges.

With 80% of sales, the company has its mainstay in distance selling. The circulation of the catalogs is around 500,000. The remaining 20% ​​of sales are achieved by the stationary trade of the fashion house and warehouse sales with headquarters in Würzburg and until around 2010 (Zalando) it was Germany's largest shoe mail order business.
