Gebran Bassil (also Dschebran Bassil ; Arabic جبران باسيل, DMG Ǧabrān Bāsīl ; * June 21, 1970 in Batrun ) is a Lebanese politician of the Free Patriotic Movement .

Life

Bassil studied engineering at the American University of Beirut . He was Minister for Telecommunications in the government cabinet of Fouad Siniora . In 2008 he became Minister of Energy and Water Supply in Lebanon in the government cabinet of Najib Mikati . Bassil was Lebanon's Foreign Minister in the government cabinet of Saad Hariri from February 2014 as the successor to Adnan Mansour . Since September 2015 he has been party chairman of the Free Patriotic Movement. Bassil is married to the daughter, Chantale Michel Aoun, of the Lebanese President Michel Aoun and has three children.
