Tandem seaters

A tandem seat refers to a two-seater means of transportation in which the seats are arranged one behind the other with a view in the direction of movement. The Middle Latin adverb tandem means " lengthways (one behind the other)".

A bike in tandem configuration offers space for two people. The driver is referred to as the pilot or captain, the non-driver as the stoker or heater.

Automobiles

The Messerschmitt cabin scooter is an example of a tandem seat motor vehicle. A recent example is the Renault Twizy .

Aircraft

In fighter planes in tandem configuration, the pilot usually sits in front, while the crew member sits in the rear seat, who takes on secondary tasks such as operating the avionics or weapons.

In combat helicopters , such as the Bell AH-1 Cobra , the pilot sits in the back and the weapons system officer in front on some models so that he has a better view of the target.
