Gecko is an advertising-free German-language magazine for children aged four and over.

Every two months, Gecko offers richly illustrated reading stories by well-known authors and illustrators on 52 pages, plus language games, puzzles, reading tips, experiments and handicraft tips. The aim of Gecko is to promote reading pleasure, language and creativity and to accompany parents and children by reading aloud together during the transition from kindergarten to elementary school. First-time readers should achieve their first reading success with Gecko. Gecko has been awarded the Reading Foundation's seal of quality .

Gecko is available by subscription and as individual editions in bookshops and on the magazine's website. The magazine is not sold at the kiosk. It appears every two months with an edition of approx. 6000 copies. Due to its special design, Gecko has both an ISSN and an ISBN, so it is both a magazine and a book.

history

Gecko was founded in 2007 by Muriel Rathje and Anke Elbel. The first edition appeared on September 1, 2007. In 2008, Petra Wiedemann joined as the third editor. Most of the stories and all categories are published in Gecko for the first time, and the illustrations are designed exclusively for Gecko. 13 artists work on each edition. Gecko also sees itself as a forum for young illustrators and authors.
