18th century children's magazine Der Kinderfreund von CF Weisse (1781).

Children's magazines are magazines that are professionally made by adults for boys and girls ages one to twelve. This sets them apart from youth magazines , girls' magazines and school newspapers .

The choice of topics, their design, illustrations, the scope of the articles and the respective booklet, language level and font size must be suitable for children . Picture stories , animal pages, coloring pages , posters , puzzles, handicrafts and possibly a gimmick are characteristic of a children's magazine.

The oldest youth magazine in the world is the Flea Box , which was founded in 1876 under the title Jugendlust and is now published by Domino Verlag . Today there are around 85 to 100 children's magazines on the German market alone.
