history

Bummi anthology

Bummi first appeared on February 15, 1957 as a monthly magazine in the GDR . From 1965 onwards it was published biweekly at a price of 0.25  marks with a print run of 736,300 copies by the Junge Welt publishing house . It was officially published by the Central Council of the FDJ for children from three to six years of age and was sold over the counter and in kiosks. As a print medium, it was primarily intended to provide targeted support for children and adolescents in the GDR: the ABC newspaper followed for young pioneers, the drum for Thälmann pioneers , and finally the Junge Welt for members of the FDJ . Ursula Werner-Böhnke was the long-time editor-in-chief, and the bear figure that gave it its name was designed by Ingeborg Meyer-Rey . Ursula Werner-Böhnke also wrote the text of the Bummi-Lied , which was set to music by Hans Naumilkat and appeared in the 2nd grade music books in the GDR.

In the early 1970s, the magazine introduced the “Golden Child Sun”: a pin of honor that the children could cut out and give to a person of their choice (based on the widespread state awards). A standardized but personally signed thank-you letter was received from well-known artists.

Wolfgang Richter thanks for a "Golden Child Sun".

The magazine Bummi appeared after the end of the GDR since 1991 by Pabel-Moewig Verlag KG, which belongs to the Bauer Media Group . In 2017, Blue Ocean Entertainment AG from Stuttgart, a subsidiary of Hubert Burda Media , took over the magazine.

In cooperation with the children's channel of ARD / ZDF , a short animated series was produced, which has been shown since May 2011 within the program KiKANiNCHEN . The 26 individual episodes of the first season are three minutes long and have Bummi as the main character.

Bummi was also the name of a bear puppet figure of GDR television (see Pittiplatsch ), but which had nothing in common with the character of the magazine except the name and the fact to be a teddy bear.
