National Geographic Germany is a popular science magazine that has been published in Germany since 1999 . Gruner + Jahr acquired a license for this from the National Geographic Society and published the magazine through G + J NG Media, in which Gruner + Jahr and the publishing house GeraNova Bruckmann each held 50 percent from 2016 . On January 1, 2020, the publishing house GeraNova Bruckmann took over the license from Gruner + Jahr. In the course of this, the editorial office was relocated from Hamburg to Munich .

Content

Under the motto Inspiring people to care about the planet (freely translated: " Inspiring people to be interested in the planet"), National Geographic Germany reports on distant countries, nature and culture, on astronomical, historical and archaeological topics, on climate change and Sustainability. In addition to the translated reports from the US edition, the German magazine includes short articles by the German editorial team and, since 2005, its own reports. Some of these articles and current topics are published on the website in addition to the print edition.

people

The editor-in-chief of National Geographic Germany was Klaus Liedtke from 1999 to 2009 and Erwin Brunner from 2009 to 2014. Florian Gless was editor-in-chief from June 2014 to April 2018 and, from October 2014, he was also editor-in-chief of PM Magazin . From April 2018 to December 2019 Jens Schröder was editor-in-chief of National Geographic Germany and PM Magazin . After the magazine was taken over by the publishing house GeraNova Bruckmann in January 2020, Werner Siefer became editor-in-chief of the magazine.

Edition

National Geographic Germany has lost a lot of circulation in recent years . The number of copies sold has fallen by 71.1 percent since 2000. It is currently 83,898 copies. This corresponds to a decrease of 206,900 units. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 72.5 percent.

  • National Geographic Collectors Edition : The Bookazine series has been devoted to selected topics in a special issue since 2004.
  • National Geographic Kids (until mid-2012 National Geographic World ): The German-English children's and youth magazine of National Geographic directed since 2003 to young readers up to 14 years. The bilingual booklet was published ten times a year and was available in stores including an audio book for 5.30 euros. Since 2014, National Geographic Kids has been published ten times a year as a monolingual magazine with posters and booklet supplements at a price of 4.20 euros by Panini -Comics.
  • NG Buchverlag GmbH: National Geographic Germany has been working together with the publishing house GeraNova Bruckmann in the joint NG Buchverlag GmbH since April 2016 .   • Online photo community: The photo community offers amateur photographers the opportunity to share their own photos with other community members.
