Wapiti (formerly Bimbo ) is a German magazine for children between seven and ten years. It is published by the Sailer Verlag in Nuremberg , which belongs to the French Bayard Group . Wapiti serves the areas of interest wild and domestic animals, nature and knowledge.

history

The title of the magazine denotes a small African elephant named Bimbo

Wapiti has its origins in the magazine Der kleine Tierfreund, launched in 1949 . Due to the differentiating reading habits, the older periodical was continued as the youth magazine Tierfreund , which in 1978 was accompanied by a children's magazine called Bimbo . The magazine tradition that has existed since 1949 was also recognizable in the bimbo , as the Bimbo magazines from then on had the subtitle “The Little Animal Friend”. In the 1980s, Wilfried Beuerle acted as editor-in-chief. At that time, a booklet consisted of 20 pages printed in full color. The font was much larger, the articles were a lot shorter than in Tierfreund . Characteristic of the issues of the 1980s was the monthly continuation story on pages 2 and 3, written by Wilfried Beuerle and illustrated by Wolfgang Weber. It was about the adventures of the small eponymous African elephant Bimbo . In October 2019 the magazine was renamed Wapiti .

Todays situation

Wapiti is only available by subscription , the magazine is not sold at the kiosk and appears monthly with a sold circulation of around 25,000 copies. It is considered to be of educational value and is recommended by the Ministries of Education and the Reading Foundation . Wapiti sees itself as a hands-on magazine for young adventurers, animal and nature lovers.
