War memorial

The memorial cross Zum Lockhütter Weg is in the Lockhütte district of the Bettrath-Hoven district of Mönchengladbach in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The war memorial was built in 1950. It was entered under No. Z 004 on January 22, 1997 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

location

The memorial cross is on the other side of the motorway bridge, immediately before the city limits in the direction of Viersen .

architecture

The simply structured brick system consists of a solidly bricked shaft cross with a Christ body made of cast bronze on a traditional pillar base, which is integrated in the middle of a high, altar-like pedestal. Right and left two marble inscription panels:

  • left inscription: "To the silent memory of the fallen and missing"
  • right inscription: "the Honschaft Lockhütte"

The originally listed names of the fallen in the district were later removed. A footfall from the beginning of the 18th century is embedded in the cross-bearing central pillar . It is made of Liedberg sandstone and is emphasized in the center by a holy niche closed with a metal grille. In the niche is a figure of the Madonna donated by Ms. Elisabeth Heitzer in 1981. The previous location of the footfall is specified in a document that was included in the annex: on the old military road from Neuss to Viersen at the level of the former Piperhof in Bettrath-Lockhütte.

The protection is therefore in the public interest for reasons of local history.
