The memorial for the fallen of the Red Army is a memorial created by Ernst Sauer in the city of Senftenberg . It is located on Briesker Straße west of the New Cemetery. It is a listed building . The memorial commemorates the fallen Soviet soldiers of the 1st Ukrainian Front under General Konew , who liberated Senftenberg from April 19-20, 1945. In the immediate vicinity of the memorial is the cemetery of honor for the fallen soldiers.

On the 30th anniversary of the liberation, it was decided to redesign the burial place of the soldiers who fell in April 1945. The Senftenberg sculptor Ernst Sauer was commissioned. The memorial was inaugurated on May 8, 1975, and the first commander of the Soviet district command was in attendance, Gardeoberst a. D. Ivan Soldatov. During this redesign, the gravestones of the more than 120 soldiers were removed. The monument was renovated in 2015 and opened on September 1, 2015. During this renovation, plaques with the names of the fallen soldiers in Cyrillic were attached. In the entrance area, steles provide information about the memorial and the events of the war.

The memorial consists of two spatially slightly separated parts. A stylized metal flower grows flanked by three 6.5-meter-high bayonets and is intended to encourage vigilance. A cube clad with a dark igneous rock bears the inscription Glory and Honor the Fallen Heroes of the Soviet Army in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 in German and Russian on the front and on the back Mankind will never forget the millions of heroes, the people of many Countries brought freedom .
