Ernst Sauer (born April 24, 1923 in Dresden , † June 8, 1988 in Senftenberg ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Sauer grew up in Meissen and went to elementary school there . He then completed an apprenticeship as a ceramic modeler. No sooner had he finished his training than he was called up for military service. His artistic career was interrupted for ten years, as he did not return from Soviet captivity until 1949 . After the war he worked temporarily as a commercial advertiser . From 1952 to 1957 he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts . He then worked as a freelance sculptor in Berlin . In 1961 Lusatia became his new home and he settled down in Senftenberg. In his works one recognizes the people on the street superficially , in his small sculptures he has given preference to imaginative creativity in his joy of experimentation. He died in Senftenberg after suffering from cancer . On the occasion of his 90th birthday, a square in Senftenberg was named after him.

tomb

He is buried in the Senftenberg forest cemetery next to his wife of the painter Hildegard Sauer.
