The memorial stone is a war memorial near the Königstein of the Teufelsmauer in the northern Harz foreland in the area of the city of Thale near Weddersleben in Saxony-Anhalt .

It stands southeast of the Königstein on the south side of the path leading up to the Königstein, a little west of the stamping point 188 of the Harz hiking pin .

The memorial stone was erected in memory of a fallen German soldier who was buried by local residents in April 1945, whose identity remained unknown due to the lack of papers and identification tags. The grave had been cared for for more than 50 years, until 1995, when the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge) transferred the remains to the Thale cemetery .
