Prison or hunger tower in Mindelheim

The prison tower (also called the hunger, maleficent or robbery tower) is located in the town of Mindelheim in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ). It is a listed building.

description

The tower has a total height of 34 meters. The oldest parts in the lower area probably date from the second half of the 14th century. The upper part of the tower was built at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. In 1834 the tower was integrated into the building of the Fronfeste .

The prison tower is a cylindrical, plastered brick building . In the south-east, on the side of the ditch, at the level of the roof of the front fortress, a row of low panels, each with three round arches, are attached. Above it rise five further storeys with small, barred arched and rectangular openings in a south-easterly and north-westerly direction. Eight small arched openings are built all around on the top floor. The conclusion is an octagonal cornice panel. The corners of this plate protrude slightly above the cylindrical tower structure. The eight-sided, tiled pointed helmet rises above it . A renovation took place around 1960.
