action

Ashlyn is a high school student and lives with her grandmother in a small town south of Pittsburgh . Ashlyn and her grandmother have had strict rules for years about how to keep their ability to recognize elves a secret from them. Elves are evil creatures who don't like being recognized by ordinary mortals. Ashlyn has learned to protect herself from them and evade their attention by preferring to stay near iron, which most elves iron can't stand. When Keenan, the "King of Summer", takes an interest in her, it becomes increasingly difficult for her to withdraw. Because Keenan and his companion can not only withstand iron, they can also assume a human form. Outwardly, Keenan has turned into a charismatic student, but is unaware that Ashlyn can see his true form. Determined to court Ashlyn, he is surprised by her rejection. Ashlyn confides her secret to Seth, her best friend. Together, they try to find out why Keenan is interested in Ashlyn. They find out that Keenan has been looking for a "Queen of Summer" for nine hundred years. Apparently, Keenan sees Ashlyn as a possible queen who could save him from his long search. Although Ashlyn loves Seth, she eventually decides to help Keenan banish his wicked mother, the "Queen of Winter". Donia, who accompanies Keenan and has secretly loved for a long time, becomes the new "Queen of Winter". She eventually confides her love to Keenan. The latter in turn realizes that he also loves Donia. Ashlyn tries to maintain her normal life as much as possible despite her duties as queen: she goes to college and continues to be with Seth.
