Gegeneophis danieli differs from all other Gegeneophis species by the more than 50 secondary annuli , which are lined with white and are present on both the front and the rear half of the body.
Occurrence
The species occurs in southwest India in the Western Ghats in Goa , the southern Maharashtra and the border area of Karnataka .
Systematics
Gegeneophis danieli was first described in 2003 by Giri , Wilkinson and Gower . The species was named after former director of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) JC Daniel in recognition of its numerous contributions to the herpetology of India .
The species Gegeneophis nadkarnii described by Bhatta and Prashanth in 2004 is a synonym of Gegeneophis danieli .
