The Geheyan Dam ( Chinese  隔河 岩 水坝 , Pinyin Géhéyán Shuǐbà ) is a large dam on the Xiangjiang (also Qing Jiang ), a tributary of the Yangtze in the Chinese province of Hubei .

The barrier structure is a gravity dam in the upper part and an arch dam in the lower part , similar to the Okertalsperre in Germany.

The construction work lasted from 1987 to 1998. At the dam there is a lock with the chamber dimensions 240 m × 24 m × 4 m and a two-stage ship lift with 42 m and 82 m lifting height for ships up to 300 tons.

The dam played an important role in mitigating the 1998 Yangtze River floods .
