Gellertberg (Niederau)

The Gellertberg (popularly also gypsum hill ) in the area of ​​the Saxon community Niederau near Dresden is 177.8 m high and was named after the poet Christian Fürchtegott Gellert . The Gellertberg, east of the Oberau location , is part of the terrain level in the course of the Lusatian fault , which borders the Elbe valley there .

As early as the 12th century, monks were growing wine on Gellertberg, whose growth and taste were influenced by plans .

On the mountain are old linden trees, the Gellerthäuschen (formerly a hunting lodge), an artificial ruin of a tower built in 1824 (for manor festivals) and an open-air theater built in 1955 (Gellert-Freilichtbühne). Whitsun singing takes place on the stage every year.
