Gellertstrasse 13, Herderstrasse 12, 14, 16 is a listed group of houses in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located in a prominent corner location on the southwest corner of the intersection of Gellertstrasse and Herderstrasse in Magdeburg's Stadtfeld Ost district . The house Herderstrasse 12, 14, 16 is also listed as an individual monument within the part of the monument area.

Architecture and history

The group of houses was created in 1934 according to plans by master bricklayer Gustav Wienecke in the style of New Building and also shows the influences of Expressionism . The building ensemble, erected on an L-shaped floor plan, is based in its design on the housing construction carried out by cooperatives in Magdeburg in the 1920s, but was a private property.

Four-storey residential buildings were built with flat roofs protruding slightly. North to Herderstraße towards the axially symmetrical structure is risalits divided. The facades have a simple design and are characterized by the alternation of plastered and bricked areas. The clinkered areas emphasize the ground floor and the risalite. There are also horizontal strips of clinker bricks on the risalits. The risalits facing Herderstrasse have loggias with a triangular base in their middle . The triangular shape results from the inclined guidance of the entrances.

Shops are located in the corner of the ground floor.

The group of houses is considered to be architecturally significant and a document for the diversity of Magdeburg architecture in the mid-1930s. It is considered to be well integrated into the older surrounding area.
