The non-profit development cooperation GmbH (GEZA) is a denominationally independent non-governmental organization in Austria , which is dedicated to development cooperation and development education.

Goals and areas of activity

In the sense of helping people to help themselves, the organization implements projects on site with partners and also makes a contribution to raising public awareness of the concerns of people from the south. The thematic focal points represent a contribution to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals and the fight against poverty. The organization implements projects in the areas of health / HIV, education, peace and democracy promotion, women's and human rights, support for local governments and local economic development. It also deals with the exchange and dialogue between Austrian and Mozambican parliamentarians.

The projects are predominantly funded by the Austrian Development Agency and some state governments and aim to support disadvantaged groups and strengthen the civilian population. The projects are accompanied by exhibitions and information events, for example at schools. The priority regions of GEZA include Africa ( Western Sahara , Uganda , Mozambique , South Africa ).

The GEZA was founded in 2007 by the Austrian Workers' Samaritan Association and the Austrian North-South Institute for Development Cooperation . Although the GEZA has only existed since 2007, it has a wealth of experience in development cooperation through its long-standing partner organizations, in particular the ÖNSI institute. Today the Austrian Arbeiter-Samariterbund (ASBÖ) has a 95% stake in the GEZA and the ÖNSI association 5%.

  • Paint the World 2009: At the Danube Island Festival, prominent people from politics and culture painted for a good cause. The works were auctioned off from autumn, and all proceeds will benefit the GEZA development projects.
  • On May 12, 2009 the benefit concert “One Night for Africa” for development projects in Africa took place in the U4 discotheque.
  • In December 2009, the GEZA organized the festival "this human world - the run-up" in cooperation with the Schikaneder cinema . HIV / AIDS concerns us all ”, which showed films on the subject of HIV / AIDS.
  • From May 18 to June 21, 2010 the photo exhibition Moved Generations was on view in the Museum für Völkerkunde in Vienna and was organized by the GEZA as part of the project “HIV prevention and health care for children and young people in South Africa”.

Educational work

  • On March 4, 2010 a conference on "Western Sahara - The Last Colony of Africa" ​​was organized by GEZA and VIDC (Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation).
  • From September 12th to 17th, 2010, GEZA and Zeit! Raum organized an Action Week as part of the AWARE project. There were musical and artistic performances, workshops, presentations and discussion events on the subjects of education and the UN Millennium Development Goals.
