The Austrian Development Agency GmbH (ADA) is the agency of the Austrian development cooperation . On behalf of the federal government, it plans, finances and accompanies development programs and projects in countries in Africa , Asia , and Southeastern and Eastern Europe . The aim of ADA is to improve living conditions in developing countries and to support partner countries in their sustainable development. In addition, the ADA supports projects for development communication and education in Austria in order to strengthen the discourse on development cooperation.
Organization and history
ADA is a non-profit, not-for-profit company with limited liability based in Vienna. The owner is the Republic of Austria , the owner representative is the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs .
The goals and tasks are anchored in the 2003 amendment to the Development Cooperation Act (EZA-G 2002). The respective three-year program of Austrian development policy specifies the geographical and thematic priorities.
The company has been headed by Martin Ledolter since 2013.
The Austrian Development Agency has international offices in 11 countries. In direct exchange with the respective governments, other donors, civil society and business, they handle programs and projects and ensure the optimal use of Austrian funds.

The Austrian Development Agency is committed to the sustainable improvement of living conditions in the partner countries and contributes to strengthening the understanding of global relationships in Austria.
Client and partner
As a federal institution, ADA is available to all public institutions, civil society and companies with advice and support in the implementation of development policy programs and projects. These are implemented together with partners who are determined through tenders, application procedures or calls for proposals.
There is also close cooperation with organizations of the United Nations , with the international financial institutions and with the European Union . As an accredited agency, ADA implements projects in developing countries for the European Commission .
In the event of humanitarian crises, the ADA relies on tried and tested Austrian and international organizations. Funds from the BMEIA's Foreign Disaster Fund are available for specific measures, following the relevant resolutions of the Council of Ministers .
Funding projects
The organization promotes projects and programs of development organizations that are based in Austria and have specialist expertise and own funds. The projects are planned and implemented together with local partners in developing countries.
In order to arouse more attention and interest in development policy issues, projects are financially supported by civil society organizations based in Austria that deal with the topics of human rights, gender equality, the environment, world trade / fair trade and corporate social responsibility as well as global learning. Clear communication as to why development cooperation has a direct impact on life in Austria is also the focus of ADA.
The economic partnerships program is aimed at Austrian and European companies who want to realize business ideas with added development value in Africa , Asia , Latin America , Southeastern and Eastern Europe . Between 2004 and 2014, 140 business partnerships with a total volume of around 61 million euros were implemented.
