The Austrian Embassy for Armenia is the Embassy of the Republic of Austria for the Republic of Armenia ( Armenian Hajastani Hanrapetutjun ).

history

Armenia belonged to the Ottoman Empire from 1514 , so the Austrian envoy at the Sublime Porte in Istanbul was responsible . After the establishment of the Soviet Union in 1922, the Austrian ambassador to Russia was the representative at the Moscow embassy (1924–1927, from 1945). The Moscow embassy remained responsible even after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990/1991. Austria's engagement in Armenia goes back to the humanitarian aid after the severe earthquake in 1988 . Armenia has been a priority country for Austrian Development Cooperation  (ADC) since 2011 , and an office for technical cooperation has been set up at the Honorary Consulate in Yerevan (Yerevan) (today operated by the Austrian Development Agency  ADA).

In 2012, a dedicated ambassador was then accredited, he resides at the Foreign Ministry in Vienna. In the course of the administrative reform 2015–2018, the Caucasus region will be further upgraded to “efficiently represent Austrian interests in a changed geopolitical environment in Europe and the world” with the embassy in Tbilisi (Georgia) .
