List of Austrian ambassadors in Italy

This is a list of the Austrian ambassadors to the Kingdom of Italy (1861–1946) and the Italian Republic (since 1946). The Austrian Embassy opposite the Quirinal has been located in Via Pergolesi Giovanni Battista 3–7 since 1929.

Note: The ambassadors in Italy today are not to be confused with the ambassadors to the Holy See (and the historic Papal States) .

In the following Habsburg and Austrian ambassadors in the Italian states before the unification of Italy (1861). In the Cisalpine Republic , Baron Sigismund von Moll (1759-1826) headed the Austrian legation from May 4, 1802 to April 23, 1805. Napoleon Bonaparte founded the Kingdom of Italy (1805-1814) as the successor to the Cisalpine Republic , took over the presidency and on May 26, 1814 crowned himself King of the Italians. On April 23, 1814, Eugène de Beauharnais surrendered to Austrian troops, which then occupied Veneto and Lombardy. The Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto was awarded to the Habsburg Monarchy by the Vienna Congress Act .
