Harm-Hinrich Brandt

Harm-Hinrich Brandt (born January 22, 1935 in Stuttgart ) is a German historian who deals particularly with the German history of the 19th century.

Life

Harm-Hinrich Brandt, the son of a geodesist, grew up in Stuttgart, Hildesheim and Bremen , where he attended the modern language grammar school. After graduating from high school in Bremen on Dekanatsstrasse, he studied history, political science and German at the universities of Marburg and Freiburg im Breisgau from 1954 . During his studies he became a member of the AMV Fridericiana Marburg in 1954 . In 1960 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . His dissertation , which Fritz Wagner had supervised, dealt with the Hessian economic administration and economic policy.

After Brandt had passed the first state examination for higher education in 1961, he worked as a research assistant to Fritz Wagner at the Institute for Modern History at the University of Marburg. In 1966 he moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he was appointed Academic Councilor and senior councilor and completed his habilitation in 1975 . In 1978 he was appointed associate professor. Professor . In 1980 Brandt accepted a call from the University of Würzburg , where he held the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History II until his retirement in 2000.

Brandt's research focus is the history of the 19th century, particularly the Habsburg monarchy . He also dealt with the social and economic history of the Hessian and Main Franconian area and with the political history of the German states from the revolution of 1848/1849 to the establishment of the Empire in 1871 . As a student historian, Brandt deals with the history of the Sondershäuser Association as well as the social and mentality history of German corporations since the 19th century.
