Alfons M. Kloss

Alfons M. Kloss (born September 19, 1953 in Graz ) is an Austrian lawyer and diplomat . He has been President of the Pro Oriente Foundation since 2018 .

Life

Alfons M. Kloss was born in 1953. He graduated in 1971 in Salzburg and was established in 1976 after studying law at the University of Salzburg doctorate . Kloss is married and has three children.

Kloss entered the service of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1979 . After working in New Delhi , Helsinki , Bonn and Milan , he became Deputy Head of the Austrian Presidential Office in 1997 . In 2001 he was accredited as the Austrian ambassador to Italy . In 2007 he was appointed advisor for European and international affairs to Federal President Heinz Fischer . From 2011 to 2018 he was Austrian Ambassador to the Holy See , the Republic of San Marino and the Sovereign Knights of Malta Order . In 2018 he was appointed President of the Pro Oriente Foundation at the suggestion of Cardinal Christoph Schönborn .

Kloss is a holder of various domestic and foreign decorations, among them the Great Golden Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria and the Papal Order of Pius .
