Ludwig von Paar

Count Ludwig Johann Baptist Emanuel von Paar (born March 26, 1817 ; † January 6, 1893 ) was an Austrian diplomat and art collector.

Ludwig von Paar was a member of the Austrian noble family von Paar . His father was Johann Karl Fürst von Paar (1773–1819); Karl Johann Fürst von Paar (1806–1881) was his older brother. Ludwig was in the foreign service of the kk, later kuk monarchy and was Austrian ambassador to Sardinia-Piedmont from 1853 to 1857 , then from 1857 to 1859 in the same function in Modena .

On June 14, 1858 he married Marie Anna geb. Countess Esterházy -Galantha (1834-1863) and moved a year later than kk ambassador to the Swedish court of Stockholm . From 1864 to 1866 he held the same position at the Hessian court in Kassel ; after a mission as the now Austro-Hungarian envoy to the Saxon court in Dresden (1869 to 1872), he was transferred as ambassador to the Holy See in Rome in 1873 , and remained in this post until 1888. Von Paar owned a notable collection of autographs, among others also letters from Michelangelo . He was also the owner of Mozart's children's violin , which his son gave to the International Mozarteum Foundation in 1896 .
