Austrian Embassy in Bratislava

This list of the Austrian diplomatic representatives in Slovakia contains all ambassadors of the Republic of Austria in the Slovak Republic ( Slovak Slovenská republika ). The official seat is the Austrian Embassy in Pressburg (Bratislava).

history

Until the end of the monarchy , Slovakia was the territory of the Kingdom of Hungary , and bilateral domestic affairs, from 1867, between the two parts of the empire. With the establishment of Czechoslovakia , diplomacy ran through the embassy in Prague and was overshadowed by the Cold War after the Second World War , but was by the neutrality of Austria quite collegial. After the fall of the Iron Curtain and the peaceful separation into the two present-day states (as of January 1, 1993), the Consul General in Bratislava was immediately upgraded to an embassy.

Until 2012, the embassy was located in Palais Pálffy on Ventúrska ulica. Then the embassy moved to the Astoria Palace on Hodžovo námestie (Hodža Square). The opening ceremony took place on September 14, 2012.

After initial teething problems, Slovakia is now considered the model country for the EU's eastward expansion  (2004), and the cooperation is intense. Vienna and Bratislava, which lies directly on the Austrian border, form the Centrope European region (founded in 2003), the fastest developing economic area in Europe in the 2010s.
