Community of European Mentalists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Community of European Mentalists (GEM) e. V. was an association whose members mainly deal with the field of mental art within the performing arts . The association dissolved in 2015 and the official website is no longer available.

Club goals and work

The association was dedicated to promoting and maintaining and imparting knowledge in mental art in theory and practice and supported its members in theoretical and practical questions. In addition, the association devoted itself to a comprehensive educational work and combated grievances such as charlatanry. The association and its members represent strict ethical and moral principles that prohibit any form of taking advantage of others, for example by specifying non-natural abilities for financial reasons. In numerous press reports and statements by well-known mentalists, reference was made to the work of the association and its principles and argued on the basis of these.

The GEM was the only association dedicated solely to mental art in which German-speaking mentalists organized. The association counted well-known nationally and internationally active mentalists from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the BeNeLux countries, Italy, Spain and the USA among its members. The GEM was not focused on rapid growth, but rather aimed at bringing together suitable mental artists in a community who were actively involved in mental art. In order to question and confirm this interest, club applicants had to submit to a comprehensive questioning of their intentions.

In addition to a comprehensive electronic information platform, the association offered its members a central library with currently over 1,000 titles. One-day and multi-day seminars and workshops took place regularly, held by association members themselves or internationally known artists.
