The Community of Our Lady of Walsingham ( Engl. : Community of Our Lady of Walsingham, abbreviation: COLW) is a Roman Catholic religious community of women and men. It was founded on January 6, 2004 in the Archdiocese of Westminster and stands in the tradition of the Carmelites . The name is traced back to the English pilgrimage site of Walsingham , also known as England's Nazareth. Here is the miraculous image of Our Lady of Walsingham .

history

The origin of the community lies in the desire to support young people who feel called to religious life. In 1999 a “Vocations-Gruppe” (Vocation- dt . : calling ) was created. The founding members decided, after a certain period of training and preparation, to live according to the evangelical councils .

In 2006, on the feast day of the Annunciation (March 25), the first two members of the founding group made their profession in Westminster Cathedral . The celebration was chaired by Auxiliary Bishop John Arnold in Westminster . In the summer of 2008, the first men entered the community, which named a community of priests and lay people as its goal .

Community and work

The members lead a communal life . With their work, they want to promote the church professional culture in church and society. They dedicate their work to the Blessed Mother Mary and regard her as a role model for their community life. The members of COLW accompany young people on their way to a Christian vocation. Since September 1, 2004, the Abbotswick Fellowship has been running an Open House of Prayer .
