General Veterinary
General veterinarian , also general veterinarian , was the official or functional designation of a high official or superior in the field of veterinary medicine within the German armed forces , but also the police, until 1945.
Importance and precedence
To distinguish it from the medical officers , the veterinary officers carried the snake, but without the Aesculapian staff in the middle. The promotions to the ranks were based on seniority.
With the transition from the Reichswehr to the Wehrmacht, some ranks of the veterinary career were changed. The following renaming took place in 1934:
- Senior Veterinarian General in Oberfeldveterinär
- General veterinarian in chief veterinarian
- General staff veterinarian in general veterinarian
- General Senior Staff Veterinarian in General Staff Veterinary
The highest rank was the Senior Staff Veterinarian ( grade C1 ), introduced in 1934 , comparable to the rank of a general . Only Otto Budnowski and Curt Schulze achieved this rank .
