Geneva factory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As early as the 19th century, the violent political scandals and quarrels that occur with a certain regularity in the canton of Geneva have been referred to in Switzerland as "geneva" since the 19th century . The word is used in French as a German loan word («une genferei de trop»), but also in the French translation «Genevoiserie» .

One of the first affairs that can still be documented as "Geneva affairs" was the bloody unrest in 1864 over James Facy's candidacy for a seat in the cantonal government, which resulted in the intervention of federal troops.

In a broader sense, the special dispute and litigation, which the Genevans are said to be peculiar to, is pejoratively referred to as "genealogy".
