overview
The museum has four exhibition rooms: the Heian room, the Uji room, a movie room and a Monogatari room. The Heian room shows the cloakroom, the furniture and scenes from life at court in the Heian period. The Uji room focuses on the city of Uji, which is the setting for the action in the last ten chapters of the Genji Monogatari. The main character of this chapter is Kaoru Genji. Here is also the picture series Genji Ekagamichō ( 源氏 絵 鑑 帖 ) by the painter Tosa Mitsunori from the Edo period , each of which illustrates one of the Uji chapters. The film Hashihime: Nyonintachi no kokoro no take ( 橋 姫 女人 た ち の 心 の 丈 ), produced especially for the museum, will be shown in the film hall . The exhibition is completed by a large amount of background information, for example on Murasaki Shikibu and Michinaga Fujiwara , which is presented in the Monogatari room.
