GeoPort

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GeoPort was a serial port that could be found on some models of Apple Macintosh computers. The GeoPort changed the actual definition of the previous serial interfaces of the Mac and added an even faster Direct Memory Access (DMA) channel which, for example, allowed the internal sound card to emulate other devices such as a modem or fax machine . Apple installed the GeoPort in many 68k Macs and some Power Macintosh computers before USB ports were integrated. The GeoPort technology is now considered obsolete and has been discontinued.
