Geoff Love (* 1950 in Melbourne ) is an Australian climatologist .

Love was born in Melbourne and grew up there. In 1972 he graduated with a bachelor's degree from La Trobe University in Melbourne and then worked as a lecturer in physics, at the same time he continued his studies and also received a Master of Science from La Trobe University . In 1975 he moved to the Australian Meteorological Authority , where he initially completed a one-year course in meteorology. He was then sent to Darwin, where he - apart from a three-year stay to do a doctorate at Colorado State University - remained until 1987 and since 1985 has held the position of regional director.

He was sent as a delegate from Australia to the World Meteorological Organization , where he worked for the Commission for Basic Systems from 1988 to 1996 as head of the working group for data management, then from 1996 to 2000 as vice president and then until 2001 as chairman. In 2001 he resigned to join the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change . He stayed there until 2003 and was subsequently appointed as "Director of Meteorology" to head the Bureau of Meteorology . He has been in this position since then.

Love remained as an expert in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and was involved in 2007 as Vice-Chair of Working Group II "Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability" in a responsible position in the preparation of the Fourth Assessment Report .
