Geoffrey Eustace Blight (born July 30, 1934 , † November 7, 2013 ) was a South African geotechnician .

Blight was a professor of geotechnical engineering at the University of Witwatersrand .

He dealt in particular with the construction of dams for the storage of partially highly toxic residues from mining (such as cyanide- contaminated earth in gold mining). He was involved in large projects to control the erosion of such dams around Johannesburg . For example, a 1,000-foot-high dam in northeast Washington state , which was never built because of the decline in molybdenum demand. He wrote about it a monograph with case studies on the failure of such dams with special reference to South Africa.

In 1997 he was a Rankine Lecturer (Interactions between the atmosphere and the Earth).
