Geologists archive

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The geologists' archive , based in Freiburg im Breisgau, is an institution supervised by the Geological Association , which collects works and legacies of geologists and palaeontologists and makes them accessible. The archive was founded in 1942 by Erich Haarmann and one year later it was destroyed by a bomb attack, which also resulted in the loss of 25,000 documents. The archive, newly founded by Max Pfannenstiel in 1956, has been part of the Freiburg University Library since 1972. Today the collection includes more than 100,000 documents of geological and historical interest, including 80,000 letters as well as photographs, maps, sketches, field books and medals.
