The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium (formerly GBO for Georg-Büchner-Oberschule) is located in the Lichtenrade district in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district of Berlin . The school is named after the German revolutionary , writer and natural scientist Georg Büchner .

It is characterized by its bilingual profile, which offers the students an enhanced training in English . The grammar school is a school without racism - school with courage . The school profile also includes the community spirit, which can be found in various school events.

bilingualism

Since the 1995/96 school year, a bilingual train ( German-English ) has been offered, the aim of which is to encourage students so that English becomes a familiar second working language for them. To this end, not only will English lessons be increased, but other subjects will also be taught in English later. Bilingualism has become so established that in 2010 the bilingual train was expanded to a bilingual profile. Since then, all classes in the new seventh year have received bilingual support. The design of the bilingual profile is based on the following principles:

  • In grades 7 and 8, English lessons are given with more hours per week, sometimes also in split lessons.
  • From the second half of the 8th grade onwards, the subject geography and from grade 9 the subject history are taught in English.
  • Political science can be taken in English in the upper secondary school. The advanced English course is no longer compulsory.
  • After grade 10 or together with the Abitur certificate, the students receive a "bilingual certificate" that lists which subjects were taught in English.
