Georg Achates Gripenberg

Georg Achates Gripenberg (born May 18, 1890 in Saint Petersburg , † May 31, 1975 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish diplomat .

Life

Georg Achates Gripenberg was a son of Alexis Gripenberg. He studied in Helsinki, Uppsala, the University of Oxford and at the London School of Economics with Alexander von Meyendorff and entered the foreign service in 1918. From 1920 to 1921 he was acting general secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Helsinki. From 1921 to 1922 he worked as chargé d'affaires in Brussels and The Hague . In Madrid he was chargé d'affaires from 1923 to 1929. He then became ambassador to London from 1933 to 1941.
