Georg Kapsch (born June 10, 1959 in Vienna ) is an Austrian entrepreneur. From 2012 to 2020 he was President of the Austrian Federation of Industrialists (IV).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1977, Georg Kapsch studied business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , where he graduated in 1981.

Georg Kapsch has been a member of the Executive Board of Kapsch AG since July 1989 and its CEO since October 2001. Furthermore, he has been CEO of Kapsch Group Beteiligungs GmbH since 2000 and was appointed a member of the Executive Board of Kapsch TrafficCom AG in December 2002 and has also been its CEO since then.

In June 2012 Georg Kapsch was elected President of the Federation of Industrialists (IV). In June 2016 he was re-elected for a further four years.

On June 18, 2020, Georg Knill was elected as his successor as President of the Federation of Industrialists. For the first time in the history of the IV there was a fight vote, opposing candidates were Martin Ohneberg and Wolfgang Eder .

Political positions

In March 2019, Kapsch spoke out in favor of abolishing non-working days as part of public holidays in Austria or replacing them with individual vacation days. The Federation of Industrialists (IV) then contradicted its President and emphasized that this was only "his very personal opinion - and not that of the Federation of Industrialists" and that "a general holiday ban ... is not up for discussion". Other political actors such as ÖVP, FPÖ and SPÖ also criticized this proposal as "absurd" and "unrealistic".
