Wolfgang Eder (born February 5, 1952 in Steinbach am Attersee ) is an Austrian manager. He has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Infineon Technologies AG since August 6, 2019 . On July 3, 2019, he became a member of the supervisory board of Voestalpine AG , which he had previously headed as CEO .

Life

Wolfgang Eder studied from 1972 to 1976 Jus at Salzburg University (Dr. iur. 1976), was there from 1974 also teaching assistant at the Institute for Austrian and International Commercial Law and resigned after nine months of Linz IMAS Institute in 1978 joined what was then VOEST as an expert in corporate law . There he became procurator in 1982, divisional manager in 1988 (group coordination, law and investments, international relations, environmental issues) and was significantly involved in the IPO of VOEST-ALPINE STAHL AG in 1995. From December 1995 he was a member of the Board of Management, in September 2001 he became Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management and from April 1, 2004 he headed the steel group now known as voestalpine AG as CEO.

Wolfgang Eder became known in the media primarily through his statements on climate policy , where he often advocates moderate environmental legislation in the Republic of Austria as the spokesman for the Federation of Austrian Industries and warns against overly ambitious CO 2 reduction measures, as these are beneficial to Austria as a business location The European Union as a whole could be damaging if similar emission limit values ​​are not introduced in countries such as the USA and the PRC.

As a group with its various locations, Voestalpine is Austria's largest emitter of CO 2 .

Eder also criticizes the ban on the controversial shale gas extraction (hydraulic fracturing) in Austria.

From 2014 to 2016 Eder was President of the World Steel Association and since 2016 he has been Vice President of the World Steel Association.

In February 2018 he was appointed to the Supervisory Board of Infineon Technologies AG with the medium-term goal of taking over the chairmanship there.

In June 2018 he announced that he would move from the Voestalpine Management Board to the Supervisory Board in mid-2019. Herbert Eibensteiner succeeded him as CEO on July 3, 2019 .
