Georg Koës

Georg Hendrick Carl Koës (baptized February 4, 1782 in Antvorskov , † September 6, 1811 on the island of Zakynthos ) was a Danish classical scholar .

Koës studied philology with Friedrich August Wolf at the University of Halle . In 1806 he went with his friend Peter Oluf Brøndsted for two years, first to Paris and then to Italy. From 1810 the two traveled to Greece with Otto Magnus von Stackelberg , Carl Haller von Hallerstein , the painter Jakob Linckh (1787–1841) and Georg Christian Gropius . On this trip he died of pneumonia in 1811 on the island of Zante.
