Georg Pranckh (politician, 1926)

Franz Georg Siegmund Gottlieb August Pranckh (born March 13, 1926 at Pux Castle , Frojach-Katsch community ; † April 19, 2005 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) as well as a farmer and forestry manager. Pranckh was a member of the Styrian Landtag from 1970 to 1981 and a member of the National Council from 1983 to 1986 .

Life

Georg Pranckh came from the old Styrian noble family of Barons von Pranckh . He was born as one of five children of the large landowners Johann-Ludwig Freiherr von Pranckh and Franziska, née Countess von und zu Eltz , called Faust von Stromberg. After primary school he attended six classes at the humanistic grammar school at Schule Schloss Salem and graduated from an agricultural college. He was drafted into military service in World War II at the age of only 17, was taken prisoner several times and finally returned from the war at the age of 19. He was subsequently active as a farmer and forester and managed his parents' farm in Pux.

In 1951 he married his wife Sophie Gieselbrecht, with whom he had five children.

politics

Pranckh was active as a local councilor in Frojach-Katsch from 1955 to 1970 , held the post of vice mayor from 1965 to 1968 and the post of mayor from 1975 to 1982. In addition, he represented the ÖVP in the state parliament from 1970 to 1981, was a member of the national council from December 28, 1983 to December 16, 1986, and from 1964 to 1976 he was a member of the regional chamber for agriculture and forestry Murau.

Awards

  • In 1990 he was granted honorary citizenship of the Frojach-Katsch community.
