Georg Schenkel

Georg Schenkel (born January 1, 1886 in Bielefeld , † November 14, 1954 in Iserlohn ) was a German politician of the FDP .

Schenkel, the son of a hospital commandant, attended the Küstriner grammar school and then studied law in Göttingen , Munich and Münster . He received his doctorate and from 1911 worked as a lawyer , later also a notary , in Iserlohn. He also confessed to his Jewish wife and her relatives during the National Socialist era .

After the war , the occupying power appointed Georg Schenkel as Richard Klewer's successor as Lord Mayor of Iserlohn. During his tenure from May 7, 1945 to October 18, 1946, he played a key role in overcoming post-war problems .
