Georg Steinherr (born January 26, 1953 in Munich ) is a former German professional boxer.
Amateur career
As an amateur, Georg Steinherr won the German junior championship in 1971 in the light middleweight division . In 1975 he won the senior title.
Professional career
Georg Hammerschorsch Steinherr made his professional debut on December 4, 1976 . On May 14, 1980 he boxed in the Munich Olympic Hall against the Briton Kevin Finnegan for the European Middleweight Championship. The fight ended in an extremely controversial draw. After knockout successes over Edip Sekowitsch and Horst Schulze, Steinherr secured the German middleweight championship in 1983 .
In his hometown Munich he won on 28 September 1984 against Jimmy Cable the European Championship in the light middleweight . Steinherr successfully defended the European Championship belt in 1985 against Emilio Sole Ruiz in Dortmund . After discrepancies with his manager and promoter , Steinherr resigned from boxing.
