Georg Strauss (born August 22, 1896 in Berlin , † 1975 in Givʿatajim in Israel ) was a German and Israeli entrepreneur, writer, association official and publisher. He was of Jewish faith.

Georg Strauss was the son of the businessman Moritz Strauss (1860-1946) and his wife Elisabeth Strauss nee Ferber (1873-1940). His brother was the later university professor Walter Strauss (* 1895). He was married to Miriam Scheurer (* 1899), who was born in Teplitz-Schönau and later became a dentist.

Professional background

His studies in Breslau followed in 1922 promotion to Dr. phil. in Berlin. From August 8, 1922, Georg Strauss was next to Walter Moses and Martin Bandmann (* 1900) under the later Israeli politician Benno Cohen (1894–1975) member of the federal management of the Jewish hiking association Blau-Weiß and, at the same time, until 1925 as company manager in Berlin. In 1926 he worked as the publishing director of the magazine for textile industry , in order to co-found Agriculture et artisanat for Jewish emigration in Paris in 1933. In 1934 he was a co-founder of the Society for the Promotion of Economic Interests of Jews living or previously resident in Germany and from 1935 as managing director alongside the lawyer Alfred Levi and Ernst Lehmann (1902–1979).

In 1924 he was co-founder of the Palestine Office in Berlin and in 1933 of the Reich Representation of German Jews and in 1933/34 involved in the reorganization. Georg Strauss had previously traveled to the Mandate Palestine . He then became the publishing director of the Jüdische Rundschau .

After traveling and returning from Amsterdam , he was arrested and charged with foreign currency offenses.

Emigration to Italy in 1937 was followed by research in the field of art history and the humanities in Florence , before emigrating to Palestine in 1939 and working for the Anglo-Palestine Bank , founded in 1902, in 1940 .

As publisher of the monthly magazine of the industrial association Hataassiyah , which had been published since 1941 , which was incorporated into Israel Periodicals Co. Ltd. in 1943 . rose, together from 1943 to 1965 with the later politician Fritz Lewinson (* 1906) Georg Strauss sold his share of the business and turned to writing.
