Georg Tischler (athlete)

Georg Tischler (born September 11, 1961 in Gols ) is a former Austrian wheelchair athlete . He was the 2004 Paralympic champion in Athens and two-time world champion in the shot put, where he also holds the world record with 10.32 m.

Career

Georg Tischler started his sports career in a wheelchair after a moped accident with paraplegia in 1977 . For him, competitive sport grew out of rehabilitation training:

“In the beginning, sport was a way of dealing with life for me, only later, when the Burgenland Disabled Sports Association offered me the prospect of participating in national and international competitions and the necessary environment for top performance was created, did I practice competitive sport. Now it has grabbed me, I enjoy approaching my limits and feel good when I've achieved something. "

In 1988 he took part for the first time in the Austrian Athletics Championships for the disabled with international participation, where he achieved 3rd place in the discus and 6th place in the javelin throw.

On November 29, 2018, he announced the end of his career.
