Georg Wessling

Georg Wessling (born August 12, 1889 in Cloppenburg ; † August 3, 1974 there ) was a German politician.

Life

Wessling was born the son of a miller. After attending elementary school, he learned the miller's trade in his father's company. He completed his training in 1913 with the master's examination. Between 1914 and 1918 he served as a soldier in World War I and returned seriously wounded in a lung shot. His injury forced him to quit his job and he opened a general store in 1924. During the Second World War he was drafted into the Wehrmacht as paymaster.

After the end of the war, he began to be politically active and in 1945 moved to the city council of Cloppenburg as a member of the CDU and later also became mayor of the city. After the founding of the federal state of Lower Saxony , he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from April 20, 1947 to April 30, 1951 , initially as a CDU member, from March 28, 1951 as a member of the joint faction of the German party and CDU.
