Georg Fredrik von Krogh (born May 24, 1963 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian management researcher. He is a professor at the ETH Zurich and holds the professorship for strategic management and innovation. He is also a member of the National Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and has an honorary research position as a scientist at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge (GB).

Professional career

Georg von Krogh specializes in competitive strategies, technological innovation and knowledge management. He led research projects in a variety of industries (financial services, media , software , computer hardware, life sciences, and consumer goods).

Von Krogh received his Master of Science degree from the Norwegian University of Technology and Sciences and his PhD from the Department of Economics and Technology Management at the same university. He was Assistant Professor at Bocconi University in Italy, Associate Professor of Strategy at the Norwegian School of Management, and Professor of Management Studies at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. There he was also director of the Institute for Business Administration. In addition, he chaired the research committee of the University of St. Gallen. He has been visiting professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management , Hitotsubashi University in Japan, the Japanese University Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) and the LSE in London. From 2008 to 2011 he was Head of the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC) at ETH Zurich. From 2008 to 2014 he was a board member of the European Management Academy (EURAM). He is also a member of a council of the Swiss American Chamber of Commerce. He was a faculty member at the World Economic Forum (2002 to 2007), where he was actively involved in scenario development for industry and business.

Professor von Krogh is a member of the board of directors of the editors of various journals, u. a. Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, European Management Review, European Management Journal, MIT Sloan Management Review, and Long Range Planning. He was also Senior Editor for Organization Studies. His honors and awards include the “Best Professional Business Book Award” from the Association of American Publishers, the “Breakthrough Idea” award from Harvard Business Review, the teaching award from ETH “Golden Owl”, the “Best Paper Award 2012” from European Management Review and the “Best Paper Award 2008” from the Journal of Strategic Information Systems.
