George Brettingham Sowerby II

George Brettingham Sowerby II (born March 25, 1812 in Lambeth , † July 26, 1884 in Wood Green ) was a British naturalist ( malacologist ) and illustrator.

Sowerby came from a family of naturalists who were particularly concerned with illustrated works on molluscs and continued the work of his grandfather James Sowerby and his father George Brettingham Sowerby I , as well as his own son George Brettingham Sowerby III (1843-1921). To distinguish himself from his father, he put an FLS after his name (as a Fellow of the Linnean Society).

In 1844 he became a Fellow of the Linnean Society .

In 1835 he married Margaret Hitchen.
