George Brettingham Sowerby III (born September 16, 1843 in London , † January 31, 1921 ) was a British malacologist , illustrator and publisher.

Sowerby was the son of George Brettingham Sowerby II and came from a family of naturalists who mainly published books on molluscs. He continued the work of his father and grandfather, especially the Thesaurus Conchyliorum . He joined his father's business in London (Great Russell Street) at the age of 17. Since he was color blind himself, his daughter later did the color illustration. In 1887 he moved his publishing house to Fulham Road, in 1897 he took on HC Fulton as a partner and in 1899 he moved to Kew. In 1916 he retired.

Around 95 works mainly on the systematics of molluscs originate from him.

In 1888 he became a Fellow of the Linnean Society .

In 1867 he married Rose Wilkie, with whom he had a son (of the same name, he emigrated to Australia) and two daughters.
