George Broderick

George H. Broderick (born May 6, 1855 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † May 10, 1905 in Aurora , Illinois ) was an American opera singer ( bass ) and recitation speaker of texts by the in the 1980s and 1990s most famous writer at the time. With regard to his vocal performances, he managed to achieve a not inconsiderable degree of popularity within the United States. For example in the premiere role of Puh-Bah in the operetta Der Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan . Broderick can be heard on fourteen Edison Standard phonograph cylinders , for example with recordings of Sheridan's Ride , a hero ballad by Thomas Buchanan Read , or Rudyard Kipling's poem The Absent Minded Beggar, which was also published on Edison Concert cylinders. Improved record

Edridge R. Johnson , founder of the Consolidated Talking Machine Company, a forerunner of the Victor Talking Machine Company , hired Broderick for independent sound recordings that were made when Johnson was still working for Emile Berliner on his behalf. The first recording by Broderick for Johnson, which was released under the label name Improved Record with the matrix number A-1, was dated June 28, 1900. It was recorded during a session beginning May 1, 1900 and ending on May 28, 1900 June 1900, created. It was a recording of the recitation of the poem Departure by Eugene Field .
